Established by attorney Ben McLawhorn in 2018, our firm provides North Carolinians with honest and dedicated legal representation in family law, employment matters, and civil litigation. Our History

A North Carolina Law Firm Built on Real-World Experience

McLawhorn Legal Services, PLLC was founded by attorney Benjamin Tyler McLawhorn. Mr. McLawhorn focuses his practice on family law representation, as well as, Employment Issues, including: Discrimination, Retaliation, Sexual Harassment and cases before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and Federal litigation in the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of North Carolina.

Since beginning his practice in 2018, Ben has represented numerous clients in District, and Superior Courts across the piedmont and coastal plain regions of North Carolina. A native of Greenville, NC, Ben recognized the need for quality representation to clients in the smaller, rural areas in eastern North Carolina. Putting a focus on client needs first, Ben has diligently practiced law and represent clients to serve those needs, wherever the client may be!

Our Story

Benjamin T. McLawhorn is a committed attorney, business owner, former educator, and North Carolina native. As a skilled and relatable lawyer, Ben understands his clients' unique circumstances and earns their trust as they seek his guidance in the areas of employment law, family law, and civil litigation. Ben's past experience in industry, trades education, and various other career fields gives him a personal passion and interest in his clients' cases.

Ben has taken on various educational endeavors, earning an Associate in Applied Science in Welding Technology from Pitt Community College, a Bachelor of Science in Applied Geography from East Carolina University, and a Juris Doctor from North Carolina Central University School of Law. Prior to finding his passion for law, Ben was a welder and welding instructor. As an employee in many different industries and institutions himself, Ben chose to pursue a career in law to help those who need a trustworthy, understanding, and compassionate attorney.

Ben is known as a dedicated attorney who represents working men and women in North Carolina. He focuses on various areas including, but not limited to, workplace safety, equal opportunity, pay and compensation, noncompete clauses, and severance agreements. As a well-rounded family law attorney, he is experienced in marital agreements, separation, divorce, child custody, child support, alimony, name changes, and equitable distribution.

As a former divorcee himself, Ben strives to guide spouses and families through difficult and challenging situations with honesty and integrity.

In an effort to give back to his community, Ben is passionate about volunteering in the service of others. He has worked with both Urban Ministries in Durham and the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. He has helped build houses by partnering with Habitat for Humanity, and assisted with disaster relief efforts following the devastation left by Hurricane Katrina on the gulf coast.

Ben has also used his legal expertise to represent indigent clients on a pro bono basis and was recognized by Marquis Who’s Who as a leader in the field of law. He has been consistently active in the Wake County Bar Association Young Lawyer Division, serving on their board for the past three years, and has committed his efforts to serving his local community.

Along with his license to practice law in the State of North Carolina, Ben is admitted to the Eastern and Middle Districts of the U.S. District Court in North Carolina, as well as the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

How do you conduct the initial consultation?

The firm offers consultations for whatever your needs require. While we understand that today’s technology supports video calls, some things, especially delicate legal matters, are best discussed face-to-face. We’re happy to offer in person consultations upon request, just call our office to check availability and schedule a time that works for you.

How much does it cost?

Legal fees vary depending on the complexity of your case. Factors such as the amount of time required, the type of legal preparation involved, and the overall scope of work, all play a role in determining expected costs. During your initial consultation, our attorneys can provide a better forecast of potential fees based upon your specific legal needs.

How often will I talk with my attorney?

We believe in clear and consistent communication. Our team, and our attorneys, work hard to keep you informed throughout every step of your case. If you ever feel the need for more direct contact, simply call our office we’re happy to schedule a time for you to speak with your attorney and address any questions or concerns you may have.

Do you only practice Family or Employment Law?

While the primarily focuses on family and employment law, our attorneys can provide you insight into a wide range of legal matters. If you have a case outside of these core areas, we encourage you to fill out one of our intake forms. We will review your information to see how we can help, and more often than not, we can assist. If not, we can assuredly connect you with someone who can.

Who can and can’t offer me legal advice?

Only a licensed attorney can provide legal advice. While our staff members are knowledgeable and heavily involved in your case, they are not able to give any legal advice. For legal questions or decisions, you will need to speak directly with one of our licensed attorneys on our team.

Do you practice in my county?
